Building a Legacy
Since 1969
The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce officially opened its doors in 1969. Meetings were held at the businesses of its founding members, including Ellen Holloway and Erva Lynch. By 1972, the chamber had grown significantly and decided to kick off a major annual event—the Angel Peak Stampede Rodeo. This rodeo became a huge success, bringing the community together for a beloved tradition. Fun fact: the chamber owned the land where the rodeo took place, a spot that’s now home to the Boys & Girls Club and the Bloomfield soccer fields. It’s also where Bloomfield Days got its start. The chamber really began to flourish in the early 1980s, with notable members like Gail Williams, Glenda Walls, Red Pennington, Paul Pinke, Jim Moll, Kerney Taylor, Eli Kovacich, Judge James Welsch, and his wife Grace playing key roles. Though it still didn’t have a permanent home then, members made do by meeting at local spots like the backroom of the 5 Seasons Restaurant (now the Panda Garden) or the Bloomfield Refinery. In 1987, the chamber hosted its first annual banquet, complete with awards. The Citizen of the Year was the first award, with early honorees including Julie Rasor, George (Red) Pennington, Johnny Duncan, Judge James Welsch, Dr. Alan Hunter, and Gail Williams. A big milestone came in 1992 when the chamber sold the rodeo grounds and purchased its own building, giving it a permanent home. We’ve been in the same place ever since—our little "hogan," a building that reflects the unique spirit and heritage of our area. It’s been a perfect fit for us ever since!
